Message from our Commodore
Good afternoon fellow club members and sailors,
At the Sunshine Coast Yacht Clubs AGM held on Sunday 11th August 2019, our outgoing now ongoing Commodore, Harry Blom, reported a successful, albeit weather interrupted, sailing season which included the running of a very successful 6th annual SCOR regatta. We hope to include a Brisbane to Sunshine Coast (B2SC) feeder race prior to SCOR next year. The Save Date has been published on the SCOR website.
Ian Brownhill was awarded an Honorary Life Membership to the Club in recognition of his tireless and unquestionable work representing the Club over a long period of time. Our congratulations go to Ian on this fine achievement.
The obtaining of a Liquor Licence was noted as being one of the highlights of the year
A disappointing aspect of the AGM was the lack of attendance by members. For a Club such as ours to succeed it is imperative that members get involved and help out. Those not attending something as important as the AGM can have no right to make complaint or criticise.
The Treasurer, Mark Holzberger, delivered a financial report confirming that the Sunshine Coast Yacht Club remains in a sound financial position. The Club therefore has an exceptionally strong platform on which to move forward.
The members elected to the new Management Committee for the 2019/20 year are as follows:
Commodore: Harry Blom
Vice Commodore: Dwight Campbell
Rear Commodore: Heinz Seeberg
Treasurer: Mark Holzberger
Secretary: Gary Want
The positions of Membership Officer and Social Organiser are kindly being undertaken by Del Morrison in a non-committee capacity. Del will be assisted in the Social Organising role by Miranda Van Den Heuvel.
The roles of Publicity Officer and the 2 Directors have not at this stage been filled and the new Management Committee is keen to hear from any interested people. The more people willing to help, the less work for all concerned and the better/stronger your club becomes.
As Commodore for the next year, I look forward to doing everything in my power to continue to support and grow, not only the Club, but participation in sailing here on the Coast.
Harry Blom (Commodore)
